Grass to Native Garden – Last Day

Today we got to see the fruits of our planning effort. When setting out the plants we bought yesterday, we realized we needed a few more to fill out the holes. And we once again revised the plant list/location:

Today’s tasks:

  • Roll the decomposed granite to make it flat
  • Configure swales: put paper down, then fill with rocks
  • Add flagstones to the driveway path
  • Put plants in the ground
  • Purchase a few more plants to fill in
  • Add drip lines for each plant
  • Spread mulch around the entire garden area
  • Install 2 copper rain chains that empty into the swales

We are really happy with the results. José tells us that all these tiny plants will grow up to be full and beautiful in a year – can’t wait!

I am looking forward to the next rain (if it ever comes) and watching the water glide down the rain chains, into the swales, and then into the earth. Which was the whole point of this project!
