Native Garden – 1 Year Later

It’s been just about a year since we planted our front yard native garden. During the winter, the plants looked like they weren’t going to make it. But with the heavy rains we had earlier this year, they all grew up big and strong! The hummingbird sage was especially showing when in full bloom.

We did have to replace the cherry tree in the middle; it simply died. We are trying an Eastwood Manzanita in that center spot. Hoping it will have a growth spurt over the next year. It was supposed to function as an ornamental tree, but the surrounding plants are so much taller!

We plan to introduce a few more natives to fill in some of the empty spots. It will be fun to shop for them.

And, if you ever wonder what happens when you put a sprouting onion in the ground, here’s a picture:

I read that when it flowers, it’s the end of its life and will produce seeds that we will plant for another onion adventure.
