Accompanying

My daughter is about to turn 18 in a couple of days. Shaking my head in disbelief – time is such a seemingly elastic thing.

And because it is the month of March, we are also at the tail end of the college drama that happens these days. Accepted or rejected? Such a crazy system….if you are the parent of a high school student, you know what I’m talking about.

Anyway, my daughter’s boyfriend is growing by leaps and bounds in his musical ability to play the French horn, and I had the great privilege of accompanying him at his recital Friday night. Because I wanted to enjoy myself and because I knew about this months ago, I have been practicing this piece over and over, and fell in love with it. So when it came time to actually play it, I was able to focus on following Shane and being dynamic and expressive on that big ol’ piano at Colburn (SUCH a joy to play!).

So here is the beautiful Theme and Variations by Franz Strauss. Sit back and listen to this young virtuoso horn player pour his heart and soul into this piece.
