Native Garden – 4 Years Later

The best part about having a native garden is that you don’t HAVE to tend to it. Or blog about it. You can just go on about your life and enjoy the wonderful sage smells whenever you walk through the garden.

Almost.

Lessons learned: not all plants are gonna do well, and it’s hard to know why. But on the other hand, some of them really take off. These pictures I took today make me realize that I should get out there and do a little shaping and mulching. And I will…soon. Also – though the plants don’t need a sprinkler system, they need a little water now and then during hot, dry times.

Last weekend was the Theodore Payne Native Garden Tour. It’s a tour of Los Angeles homes with gardens that are open to the public on a particular April weekend. We saw many gardens; big, small, tidy, wild. It was very inspirational, and we got some good tips on caring for certain plants.
